The extraordinary Four Seasons experience in Sicily has just elevated its appeal with the unveiling of the new Botanica Spa at San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel.
San Domenico Palace, renowned as an international hospitality icon with deep ties to Taormina’s history and tradition, proudly introduces Botanica Spa. This new addition features five treatment rooms and an indoor pool, offering guests an immersive experience in relaxation and rejuvenation.
For over five centuries, San Domenico served as a convent, a serene place where prayer, contemplation, and botany intertwined. When it transitioned into a hotel in 1896, it swiftly became a chic retreat favored by artists and royalty worldwide. The Botanica Spa embraces this legacy, blending the tranquil spirit of the former convent with the grandeur of one of Italy’s most prestigious hotels, surrounded by the lush, aromatic Sicilian gardens.

Designed by Studio Pisani Morace Architetti Associati, the Botanica Spa is accessed through the hotel gardens via a staircase parallel to the swimming pool. The space retains some original columns, likely remnants of the old cloister.
The choice of materials for the spa reflects the historical and natural essence of San Domenico Palace. The use of stone and wood, complemented by fine Irish green marbles, mirrors the colors of the historic gardens, creating a harmonious blend of history, nature, and wellness.
Botanica’s offerings include a range of beauty and wellness rituals combining molecular aesthetics with herbal science. Guests embark on an aromatic journey, achieving perfect harmony and rejuvenation for both body and soul. The spa features an indoor swimming pool, gender-specific saunas and steam baths, and five treatment rooms, including one designed for couples.
The hotel’s historic gardens, once tended by monks for medicinal purposes, continue to play a vital role. The plants and flowers now inspire the names of the spa treatment rooms: Zagara (citrus garden), Jasmine (Ancient Cloister), Hibiscus (Belvedere Garden – lilac version), Jacaranda (Belvedere Garden and Ingrid Garden), and Kenzia (Ancient Cloister).
To ensure a personalized experience, Botanica offers face and body rituals from renowned brands Barbara Sturm and Gerard’s. The spa’s signature treatment, “San Domenico Palace,” is a unique Sicilian experience featuring an enveloping holistic massage for complete renewal. Other body rituals include Stromboli, Etna, Taormina, and Naxos, each reflecting the beauty and essence of Sicily.
San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, boasts 111 rooms and suites, each promising a unique stay with amenities like private plunge pools with sea views, terraces overlooking the Ancient Theater, and gardens filled with citrus and orange blossoms.
Botanica Spa is open to hotel guests and external visitors by reservation only, inviting everyone to indulge in a perfect blend of history, nature, and luxurious well-being.
