The Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi is offering a refined sensory journey through its Santa Maria Novella Afternoon Tea, inspired by the world-renowned fragrances of Santa Maria Novella, the oldest apothecary in the world. Starting October 1, 2024, at THE LOUNGE, guests can indulge in a selection of sweet and savory dishes that draw inspiration from the timeless scents and rich heritage of Santa Maria Novella, a legacy deeply rooted in Florence.
Known for its layered perfumes, Santa Maria Novella’s influence is reflected in both the craftsmanship of the culinary team and the fragrances evoking Florence’s vibrant history, from its Renaissance origins to its botanical gardens.
In addition to this extraordinary dining experience, visitors will receive a complimentary fragrance sample, along with the option to personalize any perfume bottles purchased at Santa Maria Novella’s store with free engraving.
A Sweet Journey Inspired by Firenze 1221
The five signature desserts offered as part of the tea are inspired by the Firenze 1221 Edition, which marks Santa Maria Novella’s 800th anniversary. These intricate creations parallel the apothecary’s legendary perfumes, each dessert offering a sophisticated flavor experience.
For example, the Bergamot and Lavender Honey Cream Puff blends crisp textures and smooth diplomat cream, heightened by the invigorating tartness of bergamot and the gentle fragrance of lavender, evoking the Eau de Cologne Pot Pourri.
Another standout is the Vanilla Mousse with Almond Crème Brûlée and Fig-Rose Gelée, a dessert that mirrors the enchanting aroma of Eau de Cologne Rosa Gardenia. The sweet tang of fig and tayberry complements the floral notes of rose, creating a multi-sensory experience.
Savoring the Medici Legacy
The savory selections pay tribute to the Medici family’s famed botanical gardens, embodied in the I Giardini Medicei fragrance collection. Michelin-starred Chef Kensuke Kuze has crafted a menu that honors Florentine history while incorporating modern flavors.
A highlight is the Broccoli Flan with Bergamot Coulis, which, much like the Eau de Parfum Gelsomino, recalls the fragrant jasmines nurtured in the Medici greenhouses. The flan is delicately balanced with the creamy tang of ricotta, enhanced by spicy pink pepper and refreshing bergamot.
For those craving something heartier, the Red Wine Braised Beef Cheek, served with Timut pepper cream and red cabbage jelly, offers a robust flavor profile. Its presentation and taste are a nod to Eau de Parfum L’Iris, inspired by the iris, Florence’s iconic emblem.
Guests will also have access to a curated selection of beverages that complement the afternoon tea, inspired by the Medici gardens. Moreover, for a limited time, THE LOUNGE will feature a fragrance bar showcasing Santa Maria Novella’s signature scents, adding an aromatic dimension to the dining experience.
