The highly anticipated Sandbourne Santa Monica has officially opened, offering a new level of luxury and sensory engagement along Ocean Avenue.
Designed by acclaimed Icelandic architect Gulla Jónsdóttir, this 175-room hotel promises to rejuvenate Santa Monica’s upscale hospitality scene.
Jónsdóttir, renowned for her work on notable projects like Comal at Chileno Bay and Le Grand restaurant in Paris, has infused Sandbourne Santa Monica with a serene yet stimulating atmosphere.

A unique scent created with Bio Alchemy Olfactive welcomes guests, complementing the visual impact of the light-filled lobby and its mural by Guerin Swing, made from repurposed fire hoses.
The hotel offers direct access to Santa Monica Beach, combining coastal relaxation with urban excitement. Guests can enjoy the heated pool with cabanas, the Sunset Lounge, and a cutting-edge indoor/outdoor fitness center.
Event spaces spanning 10,000 square feet are ideal for gatherings, and a full-service wellness spa is set to open in 2025. Pet owners will appreciate the private on-site dog park.
Interiors feature terracotta tones, clay pottery, and lush plants, creating a tranquil environment. The terrace and courtyard invite guests to relax amidst greenery and firepits. A nightly incense ritual enhances the serene ambiance.
Sandbourne’s Artists-in-Residency program invites ceramics artists worldwide to create and display their work on-site. Guests can also engage in a 45-minute pinch pot clay class by the pool, guided by a local ceramics artist.
The culinary highlight is Marelle, a California-driven restaurant and bar by Chef Raphael Lunetta. The 187-seat venue, directed by Jónsdóttir, features handmade ceramic pendant lamps designed in collaboration with Laviva Home.
