Marriott International has secured a significant legal victory in a federal court in Virginia, successfully concluding a lawsuit against operators behind tens of millions of fraudulent robocalls.
These illegal calls, misusing Marriott’s name and brands, falsely promoted vacation and timeshare deals. The robocalls surged in 2020, reaching seven million per month, frustrating both consumers and the company.

The lawsuit, initially filed in 2021, led to the identification of multiple U.S. and foreign defendants.
On September 23, 2024, Marriott won $8 million in damages against two Mexico-based defendants, Cancun Ink Corp. and Deep Blue Desarrollos, for making over 66 million robocalls. The court also issued a broad injunction to prevent further misuse of Marriott’s trademarks.
“This case was about protecting our customers from deceptive robocalls,” said Rena Hozore Reiss, General Counsel for Marriott. Marriott worked with technology specialists YouMail to trace the fraudulent calls and bring the perpetrators to justice.
