Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) has celebrated a major milestone by opening its 600th property in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region—the Adelaide Marriott Hotel. This marks Marriott’s first venture into South Australia and underscores the company’s strategy to expand in emerging destinations.
The hotel, situated in the historic Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building, features a modern 14-storey tower with 285 guestrooms, including 12 suites offering panoramic city views. The launch aligns with the rising trend of domestic and regional travelers seeking unique experiences close to home.

As Marriott’s flagship brand, Marriott Hotels has been a symbol of family values and hospitality since its inception in 1957. The brand entered the APEC region in 1989 with the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel and now operates over 50 hotels in the area, with nearly 40 more in development.
Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific excluding China, highlighted the company’s robust growth, with 600 properties in operation and close to 400 in the pipeline. Marriott’s expansion strategy also includes plans to enter the midscale segment, further broadening its reach beyond major gateway cities.
Marriott’s commitment to community impact is evident, with over 95,000 employees in the region and a focus on job creation and talent development. By the end of 2024, about 10% of Marriott’s regional managed associates are expected to take on new roles. Additionally, Marriott’s recent certification as a Great Place to Work in eight APEC countries, including Australia, emphasizes its dedication to employee well-being.
