Mandarin Oriental to Open Luxury Property in Rome by 2026
Hong Kong, 17 May 2024 — Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced the development of a luxury property in the heart of Rome, set to open in 2026. This new addition will mark the Group’s fifth property in Italy, complementing its existing locations in Milan and Lake Como, and recent announcements for Cortina and Porto Cervo. Partnering in this project is Merope Asset Management, a leading Italian real estate investment and development firm.
Mandarin Oriental, Rome will be housed in ten 19th-century villas, originally built as residences for affluent Romans, surrounded by lush landscaped gardens.
This urban oasis will offer a tranquil retreat within walking distance of Rome’s major attractions and archaeological sites. The hotel will feature 108 guestrooms and suites with views of the gardens or city landmarks, many of which will have private gardens and terraces.

The interior design will be handled by Gilles & Boissier, renowned for their sophisticated and contemporary interiors at properties such as Mandarin Oriental, Marrakech and Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. Dining options, designed by DimoreStudio with landscaping by Parc Nouveau, will include six restaurants and bars, offering diverse settings from al fresco dining to a stand-alone dining concept in one of the villas. The Mandarin Bar, located on a rooftop terrace, will offer captivating city views.
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental will provide the Group’s acclaimed wellness experiences, featuring six treatment rooms, a VIP suite, thermal rooms, and a dedicated sundeck. Fitness facilities will include state-of-the-art equipment and both indoor and outdoor pools amidst the landscaped gardens.
Located between Via Piemonte and Via Sallustiana, within The Gardens of Sallust, the site is rich in historical charm and offers a glimpse into Rome’s ancient past. It is close to cultural landmarks such as Via Veneto, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, and Piazza Navona.
Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We are delighted to extend the Mandarin Oriental brand in Italy. Our approach in Rome will honor local craftsmanship and heritage while incorporating contemporary luxury and sustainability standards.”
Pietro Croce, CEO of Merope Asset Management, added: “The ten villas in a serene park are among Rome’s most spectacular properties. We are honored to partner with Mandarin Oriental on this unique project, and we aim to deliver an exceptional experience for our capital city.”
