IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced a new addition to its growing presence in Japan with the upcoming Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park, set to open in late 2025.

The 195-room hotel will be developed in partnership with Minami Nijo Operations, a subsidiary of World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts, and owned by a Goldman Sachs-managed fund.

Following a comprehensive renovation, the hotel will bring the trusted Holiday Inn brand to the heart of Sapporo, marking only the second “Holiday Inn & Suites” in Japan.

The transformation will include full upgrades to all guest rooms, the addition of a new gym, a lobby café embracing Holiday Inn’s Open Lobby concept, and a public bath located on the upper floors—providing travelers with versatile, comfortable, and locally immersive accommodations.

With a range of rooms and suites, along with meeting spaces and a restaurant, the hotel is designed to meet the needs of business and leisure travelers alike.

The announcement highlights IHG’s expanding footprint in Japan, especially in 2025, which the company describes as a record-breaking year for its Holiday Inn brand family.

Already this year, Holiday Inn has made a return to Kyoto, with three additional hotels under the brand set to open, including one in Tokyo. When it opens, the Sapporo property will join IHG’s portfolio of eight Holiday Inn locations in Japan and over 1,200 worldwide.

Abhijay Sandilya, CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, emphasized the strength of the brand and the rapid pace at which IHG is able to bring conversion projects like this to market. “We’re excited to bring the Holiday Inn & Suites brand to the centre of Sapporo and lead this hotel into an exciting new chapter,” he said.

Located at the end of Tanukikoji Shopping Street in the bustling Susukino district, and just a short walk from Odori Park, the hotel will offer guests easy access to Sapporo’s major festivals, renowned food scene, and seasonal natural beauty.

The region has seen a notable uptick in tourism, with a 40% rise in international visitors in 2024 compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019, along with a rebound in international flight connections in early 2025.

Hiroshi Komoto, President of World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts, welcomed the renewed collaboration with IHG following their successful introduction of the Six Senses brand to Japan. “The Holiday Inn brand is globally recognised and enables visitors to stay with a brand they know and trust,” Komoto said.

This upcoming launch adds to IHG’s growing network in Hokkaido, where it currently operates five hotels across three brands.

The company is also preparing for the debut of InterContinental Sapporo, further diversifying its luxury and lifestyle offerings in the region. Across Japan, IHG now manages 52 hotels across 10 brands, with 14 more in the pipeline.
