Greater China’s tourism market saw a full rebound in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in both visitor numbers and spending.
Riding this momentum, IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its investment in the region in 2025, marking its 50th anniversary in Greater China.
With 13 brands and over 1,300 hotels across 200 cities, IHG plans to introduce new properties across its Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, and Essentials categories to enhance travel experiences.

Expanding Brand Presence
IHG recently launched Atwell Suites in Greater China, with the first locations—Hangzhou West Lake, Shenzhen Nanshan, and Shanghai Wuning—set to open in 2025. Designed for modern travelers, Atwell Suites blends stylish aesthetics with a flexible business model, appealing to both guests and investors.

Strengthening Leisure and Vacation Offerings
With the rise in domestic and inbound tourism, IHG is expanding in top vacation spots. Kimpton Aqeos Hainan and Hotel Indigo Hainan Clear Water Bay will enhance Hainan’s luxury hospitality scene, while Kimpton Hong Kong TST and Holiday Inn Express Shanghai on The Bund will provide immersive stays in bustling urban centers.
Additionally, HUALUXE Chongqing Wushan and EVEN Hotel Quanzhou City Center will offer high-quality accommodations in emerging destinations.

Supporting Business Tourism
As business travel rebounds, IHG is extending its footprint in key economic hubs. The upcoming InterContinental Changchun High Tech Zone will cater to high-tech professionals, while Hotel Indigo Chengdu Financial City and Crowne Plaza Guangzhou Window of Canton will provide premium business and leisure experiences.
Growing in Transportation Hubs
With infrastructure improvements driving regional growth, IHG is expanding around major travel hubs. Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Airport and Holiday Inn Express Taipei Train Station will offer strategic accommodations for air and rail travelers, reinforcing IHG’s presence in key transit points.
Tapping into Hotel Conversions
Conversions remain a growing trend in hospitality. IHG will open Hangzhou Wulin GDA Hotel, Vignette Collection, and voco Chengdu Chunxi Road, revitalizing older buildings into stylish, modern properties that blend business and leisure in prime urban locations.
With these strategic expansions, IHG continues to strengthen its presence in Greater China, aiming to offer diverse and high-quality travel experiences while tapping into the region’s growing tourism potential.
