IHG Hotels & Resorts Expands in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean with New Luxury and Lifestyle Openings

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG), a leading global hotel company, is celebrating significant luxury and lifestyle growth in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean (MLAC). This expansion highlights IHG’s strategic investments and ambitious growth plans in this critical region.

With five new openings in 2024 and 32 properties in the pipeline, IHG is set to significantly increase its luxury and lifestyle presence in MLAC in the coming years.

Leanne Harwood, SVP and Managing Director for Luxury & Lifestyle Americas at IHG, commented on the expansion, emphasizing the demand and appreciation for IHG’s diverse brands. These include the luxurious retreats at Six Senses, the historic charm of InterContinental, the laid-back elegance of Kimpton, the boutique experiences at Hotel Indigo, and the unique stays offered by Vignette Collection. Each brand promises to offer more destinations and unique experiences.

Six Senses

Known for its wellness and sustainability focus in stunning locations, Six Senses made its regional debut in April with Six Senses La Sagesse in Grenada. This resort offers a unique experience blending Grenada’s Spice Island heritage with farm-to-table dining, a spa using local spices, and menus featuring produce from the island’s fertile volcanic soil. Six Senses plans to continue its thoughtful expansion with Six Senses Grand Bahama and Six Senses Xala, both scheduled to open by 2026.

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts

As the world’s first and largest luxury hotel brand, InterContinental has the most significant presence in MLAC, with 20 properties. In Spring 2023, it opened the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Nature Spa, a secluded sanctuary on Dominica. IHG will continue its expansion with the InterContinental Presidente Monterrey in Mexico, set to open in late 2024.

Located in Monterrey’s San Pedro Garza García, the hotel will feature a signature restaurant, craft cocktail bar, coffee shop, spa, extensive meeting spaces, and a Club InterContinental lounge. Future plans include the InterContinental Grenada Resort, expected to open in 2025.

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants

Kimpton, known for its design-forward hotels and vibrant experiences, continues to grow in MLAC. The Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa opened in Fall 2023, followed by the Kimpton Virgilio in Mexico City and Kimpton Mas Olas Resort & Spa in Todos Santos, Baja Sur. This summer, Kimpton will open the Kimpton Las Mercedes in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and by year’s end, the brand will unveil its first all-inclusive resort, Kimpton Tres Ríos Riviera Maya.

Vignette Collection

Launched in 2021, Vignette Collection features unique, purpose-driven hotels. Its first property in Mexico and the Americas, El Gran Encomendero in Valladolid, Yucatán Peninsula, is set to open in 2025. Valladolid, recently designated a “Magical Town” by the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, is an emerging destination for international travelers and events.

Hotel Indigo

Hotel Indigo, known for reflecting the local culture in its design, opened Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman on Seven Mile Beach earlier this month. This island oasis offers 282 water view rooms, diverse dining options, a rooftop lounge, and event spaces. Earlier openings include Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortés in January, with Hotel Indigo Tijuana expected later this year.

IHG’s strategic focus on luxury and lifestyle in MLAC is further evidenced by recent signings for InterContinental, Kimpton, and Hotel Indigo in Turks & Caicos, set to open by 2027.

Through strategic acquisitions and new brand launches, IHG has built one of the largest luxury and lifestyle portfolios in the hospitality industry. Globally, these brands represent a significant portion of IHG’s portfolio, with over 850 open and pipeline hotels.
