The hotel will feature a full-service restaurant, flexible event and meeting spaces, and the signature Open Lobby concept, a hallmark of the brand that merges work, social, and dining areas into one lively, adaptable space.

Cameron Burke, IHG’s Development Director for Australasia & Pacific, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We look forward to supporting Luxora Hotels in their vision to create Townsville’s leading midscale hotel.

Holiday Inn is part of the world’s largest brand family and is well-positioned to appeal to both domestic and international travellers to Townsville and Far North Queensland.”

The reopening of Holiday Inn in Townsville aligns with IHG’s broader regional expansion and taps into the city’s growing significance as a tourism and economic hub. Townsville is set to host several Olympic events, further elevating its profile, while ongoing growth in mining, energy, and defence sectors continues to drive demand in both leisure and business travel.

James Zhao of Luxora Hotels highlighted the local impact, saying, “Holiday Inn Townsville will deliver the exceptional, warm and welcoming experiences the brand is known for across the world. We’re also pleased to be working with La Vie Hotels and Resorts, who will operate the property.”

The move adds to IHG’s strong footprint in Australasia, where it currently operates 76 hotels across nine brands including InterContinental, Kimpton, voco, and Crowne Plaza. An additional 26 hotels are in the pipeline, reflecting IHG’s robust growth and confidence in the region’s long-term travel outlook.
