IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially opened Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street, marking the brand’s fifth property in Japan. Situated in Nagasaki’s Minamiyamate area, the boutique hotel brings new life to a historic 19th-century redbrick building, blending the city’s rich heritage with contemporary luxury.
A Celebration of History and Culture
The grand opening featured an “Open the Umbrella” ceremony, symbolizing Nagasaki’s vibrant past as the city where Western-style umbrellas were first introduced. The hotel is located near key cultural landmarks, including the Old Glover Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Oura Tenshudo, a national treasure.

Design Rooted in Local Storytelling
The hotel’s 66 guestrooms draw inspiration from the lively culture of Nagasaki, incorporating elements of the city’s unique Wa-Ka-Ran Labyrinth philosophy, which merges Japanese, Chinese, and Dutch influences. The lobby area, reminiscent of historic merchant gatherings, invites guests to experience the social energy of the past.
The on-site restaurant, Cathedréclat, features soaring 10-meter ceilings and stunning stained-glass windows, offering a unique dining experience in a space that once served as a cathedral.
