Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has announced a franchise agreement with Bohemian Hotels ehf. to open Akureyri “Skáld” Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, in northern Iceland, as well as a new property in Reykjavik.
Nick Smart, vice president of development for the UK, Ireland & Nordics at Hilton, expressed excitement about the expansion: “Iceland is an incredibly popular travel destination and we are excited to expand our portfolio of properties in Reykjavik, as well as bring the first internationally branded hotel to the Icelandic countryside in Akureyri.

Akureyri “Skáld” Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton
Located on Hafnarstræti street in the heart of Akureyri, Akureyri “Skáld” Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, is set to open in summer 2025. This hotel will feature 70 meticulously designed rooms that blend modern comforts with a nod to Iceland’s cultural heritage. The property will offer a tranquil lounge and lobby bar, an all-day restaurant with an outdoor courtyard, and an innovative social club concept. Akureyri, known for its proximity to the Diamond Circle and Arctic Circle, is a prime location for whale watching and observing the Northern Lights.
New Property in Reykjavik
A second Hilton property is slated to open in spring 2026 in Brietartún, Reykjavik. This 170-key hotel will offer premium lifestyle accommodations and is situated next to the historic Freemasons’ Hall and the vibrant Hlemmur area. The hotel will emphasize sustainability and innovation in urban development, using natural materials and thoughtful design to provide guests with an immersive Icelandic hospitality experience.
