Four Seasons Resorts Lanai Honored for Outstanding Environmental Efforts

Four Seasons Resort Lanai earns top honors for sustainability with certifications from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority and Hawaii Green Business Program, highlighting eco-friendly initiatives.

Four Seasons Resort Lanai has recently been lauded for its responsible business practices with two significant recognitions. Firstly, it has received certification from the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA), which has introduced Qurator, a new mark of excellence for Hawai‘i-based and operating businesses. This comprehensive certification aims to highlight and guide visitors toward products and experiences in Hawai‘i that adhere to responsible tourism practices. Qurator not only adds value but also acknowledges businesses that contribute positively to the environment, community, and economy. To earn this certification, businesses are evaluated based on six categories: Environment, Cultural Support, Equity, Safety, Community, and Guest Experience.

Additionally, both Four Seasons Resort Lanai and Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, have been honored with Hawaii Green Business Awards. The Hawai‘i Green Business Program (HGBP) is a state initiative that assists and recognizes businesses committed to environmentally and socially responsible operations.

This program encourages businesses to exceed compliance, particularly in energy and water conservation, waste reduction, pollution prevention, natural resource preservation, community involvement, and cultural presentation. The HGBP is a collaborative effort between the Hawaii State Energy Office, the State’s Department of Health, and the Board of Water Supply, aiming to spotlight businesses dedicated to creating a sustainable Hawai‘i.

Avi Phookan, General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Lanai, expressed the resort’s commitment to supporting the environment and communities. He highlighted the team’s involvement in various initiatives, including water-efficient golf course management, reducing food waste, sourcing sustainable partners, island clean-ups, and conservation projects. In celebration of World Ocean Month, staff and community members joined Project Reef to preserve and care for Kaiolohia Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach.

To enhance its eco-friendly efforts, the resort provides guests with complimentary mineral-safe Project Reef sunscreen at the pool and beach kiosk, aligning with its reef-friendly organic landscaping, which has earned Gold Certification from the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council.

Four Seasons Resorts Lanai is dedicated to preserving the island’s land, culture, traditions, and history. The resorts conserve energy and natural resources, develop strategic partnerships, implement sustainable practices, and engage colleagues in educational stewardship. Through the Love Lanai program, guests can immerse themselves in the island’s rich cultural-historical legacy, spanning nearly 1,000 years of Hawaiian residency, through a variety of authentic tours, demonstrations, and cultural experiences.
