The Peninsula Bangkok is thrilled to announce the residency of renowned Thai textile artist Jarupatcha Achavasmit as part of its esteemed global art initiative, Art in Resonance. Throughout her residency, Ms. Achavasmit will craft captivating new artworks for an upcoming on-property exhibition.
Until early July, guests are invited to visit her working studio at the hotel to gain insights into the art creation process and the program’s concept.
During her residency, aptly named “Sanctuary Within,” Ms. Achavasmit will weave a series of specially commissioned pieces using recycled materials, including hotel items like office paper, used linens, and aluminum amenity tubes.

Set on the 23rd floor of The Peninsula Bangkok, her studio will be open for guests to observe her creative process, ask questions about her craft, and participate in regular weaving workshops. Individual workshops with Ms. Achavasmit will be available weekly, and she will also host monthly weaving sessions for small groups of up to six people.
“Jarupatcha’s textiles are not only beautiful but also profoundly thought-provoking,” said Masahisa Oba, Managing Director of The Peninsula Bangkok. “Her work challenges our perceptions of waste and value.”
The “Sanctuary Within” exhibition by Jarupatcha Achavasmit is scheduled to launch at The Peninsula Bangkok on July 9, 2024, and will be on display until the end of August.
An internationally acclaimed designer and textile artist, Jarupatcha Achavasmit is also an educator at the Department of Architecture, Art and Design at King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. She founded and serves as Art Director of Ausara, an artisan studio where a diverse collective of weavers creates exquisite handmade textiles.
Additionally, she is a board member of the Chaipattana Foundation’s Patpat Project, a non-profit initiative promoting products made from ingredients grown on Thailand’s small farms.
Jarupatcha’s passion for textile art has been a lifelong pursuit. She learned needlework, knitting, and sewing from her grandmother, a seamstress instructor at the Royal Palace. She furthered her education in art studies at KTMIL, Thailand, the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, United States, and Central Saint Martins, United Kingdom.
In her creative work and teaching at KMITL, Jarupatcha specializes in sustainable textile design. She has collaborated with prestigious partners such as Jim Thompson, Alexander Lamont, Tai Ping, Doi Tung, and Ake Atthasumpunna.
Her work with respected organizations like The International Trade Centre and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has garnered international recognition. Her woven and painted creations have been showcased in global festivals and galleries, including Milan Art Week, the Mango Art Festival, Atta Gallery, Warin Lab Contemporary, and Art Central Hong Kong.
