A Sprawling Art-Filled Luxury Resort in Coron
Upon entering the resort, we were immediately welcomed by the vast property with striking art pieces all around. TAG Resort’s spacious lobby features a stunning mural and a unique light installation inspired by mangroves—all created by Filipino artist Kublai Millan. You can also find other Kublai Millan works all around the resort—in the rooms, no two Kublai Millan paintings are alike.
After going through the open lobby, you’ll be welcomed by the stunning (and massive) pools that take inspiration from the white-sand beaches of Coron. All around the “Tampisaw” pool are stylish locally-made lounges weaved and designed in Cebu. Guests love basking in the sun while getting comfortable in these chaise lounges.
There are also IG-worthy swing beds near the pool. Fair warning, a queue forms during the peak season just so guests can have their photos taken in these stylish swing beds. So, we’d recommend getting up early and heading to the pool ASAP to get those perfect pictures.
The pools at TAG Resort prove to be one of the town favorites because of their size, stylish design, and many poolside lounges. TAG Resort is also open to day guests, so foreign guests even visit from different hotels just to swim!
We were instantly mesmerized by the “Tampisaw” pool that welcomed us from the lobby, but the excitement grew when we realized there was another gorgeous river-style pool deeper into the resort. This one was exclusive to those staying in the resort—specifically guests at the villa-style rooms.
Spacious and Stylish Rooms at TAG Resort
We had the privilege of staying at the villa-style rooms at TAG Resort called the “Tadhana” rooms. These were the biggest rooms in the resort, offering a cozy retreat, extra privacy, and exclusive access to the resort’s second pool.
The Tadhana rooms are large enough to accommodate 3 adults and 2 kids. They feature a heavenly king-sized bed, a mini fridge, lots of storage space, a spacious en-suite bathroom, and a gorgeous glass door that leads straight to the private deck and the river-style pool.
It’s so easy to jump out of bed and straight into the pool the moment you wake up!
Another simple yet helpful feature I loved about these villa-style rooms is the direct access from the private pool to the room’s en-suite bathroom. This way, you don’t have to drip all over the floors just to get to the bathroom after your swim—just go straight to the shower. It’s so convenient!
Aside from the picture-perfect Tadhana rooms, TAG Resort also offers different room types for every kind of traveler. The Tahanan rooms are more like the suites in the usual city hotels—with lots of space, a cozy bed, and a well-equipped ensuite bathroom. These rooms also have a balcony overlooking the resort, so you can easily see the size of the property from your room.
The Taglay rooms are separated like townhouses all across the property. These rooms offer a serene escape and are perfect for big groups who need multiple rooms. You can request adjoining rooms if you’re traveling with friends or family but still want to have your own space.
There are also rooms with direct access to the hotel gardens where you can find an abundance of flowers, trees, and lush plants.
Each room at TAG Resort also features locally made furniture, marble sinks from Romblon, and accessories handcrafted by members of a local non-profit organization. It’s remarkable how this resort not only offers a visual feast and undeniable comfort with the room designs, but also shines a spotlight on local handicrafts, proudly Filipino art, and local materials.
Sustainability Efforts at TAG Resort
True to its mission of being an eco-conscious resort, there are lots of noteworthy sustainability efforts at TAG Resort.
Aside from the locally-made furniture and fixtures in all the rooms, you’ll also find repurposed liquor bottles used as containers for bath essentials.
All around the resort, take time to notice some of the designs, accessories, and furniture made of repurposed driftwood. We were quite amazed at how they reused some scrap wood from construction and turned it into tables, chairs, and even wall decor.
TAG Resort also has an e-trike that can help you go around the property because yes, it’s really that big of a resort. You might even find the hotel’s vegetable garden which keeps their kitchen well-stocked with fresh produce. Walking around, there are also labels on some trees and plants that give guests information about the plants inside the property. It may be such a small thing, but this made us appreciate the natural resources of Coron even more.
Must-Try Specialty Dishes and Local Food
TAG Resort does not hesitate to maximize local products even at their in-house restaurant, Buntag.
Some specialty dishes include Steamed Grouper and Sinigang na Lapu-Lapu—not surprising since lapu-lapu is one of Palawan’s most famous fish. We had our fill of lapu-lapu during our stay, especially since it can get expensive once it lands in the markets of Metro Manila.
Another must-try dish is the Kare Coron, TAG Resort’s take on the classic kare-kare. This beef kare-kare is made with cashew nut butter (mixed with the normal peanut sauce) and is topped with roasted cashew nuts for an added crunch. Did you know that 90% of the country’s cashew production comes from Palawan? It only makes sense that TAG Resort highlights Palawan’s local produce in such a delicious dish.
Even classic dishes such as Bacon Carbonara and the Ham & Cheese sandwich feature local pork from the island since it’s difficult to ship pork from other parts of the country. Interestingly enough, the local pork is a bit fattier than pork from elsewhere, so it’s definitely worth a try.
Of course, with Palawan’s rich marine life, you’ll also find specialty seafood dishes on the menu—such as the flavorful and tender Pulpo de Coron featuring stir-fried local octopus. This is one dish you have to try when in Coron.
Refreshments to Beat the Heat
After enjoying feasts at Buntag, we also checked out TAG Resort’s poolside bar: Tagay. In this tiki hut-style bar, guests can enjoy refreshing cocktails, mocktails, and even ice-cold buko which are perfect to enjoy in one of the sunken pool lounges.
Some of Tagay’s amazing cocktails are made with TAG Resort’s very own line of wines. The Pink Sangria, for example, is concocted with TAG Resort’s very own Pink Moscato. So, if you’re celebrating a special occasion at TAG Resort or you’re looking for a gift to bring back home, you can definitely check out one of their many wines available.
A Memorable Coron Experience
You may want to just stay at the resort for the duration of your Coron trip, but if in case you want to go out for adventure and see the island, TAG Resort also offers tour packages with a partner agency. These tours will pick you up at the resort, bring you to Coron Island’s best spots, and bring you back to the resort after an exciting day of adventure.
TAG Resort also offers aqua shoes and snorkeling gear for rent so that you can enjoy the tours to the fullest!
If you’re still planning your next getaway with friends or family, Coron should be on your list of destinations. Aside from the gorgeous scenery and experiences that the island offers, TAG Resort’s stylish and spacious rooms, many amenities, and delicious dining options will surely make your Coron trip one for the books.
