As Earth Day draws near, Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia is reaffirming its environmental commitment with a lineup of meaningful sustainability initiatives aimed at both local and global impact.
From conserving energy to protecting wildlife and reducing its carbon footprint, the hotel is taking action across several fronts—and inviting guests, staff, and the broader community to join in the mission.
One of the standout efforts is the hotel’s fifth year participating in the Lights Out program in partnership with Bird Safe Philly.

This initiative encourages turning off unnecessary lights from midnight to 6 a.m. between April 1 and May 15, helping to prevent bird collisions during peak migration.
The results speak volumes: in 2024, the broader Comcast campus—of which the hotel is a part—saw a sharp decline in bird strikes, underscoring how small changes can make a significant difference for urban wildlife.
Another major win is the hotel’s recent 4 Green Keys certification from Green Key Global, marking a notable achievement in its first year applying.
This designation recognizes excellence in sustainable hotel operations, from waste management to energy conservation and community engagement. Director of Engineering Steven Byrum-Bratsen celebrated the recognition, calling it a testament to the hotel team’s hard work and consistent environmental focus.
Internally, the hotel has also completed a full LED lighting upgrade across all guest room floor hallways. This eco-conscious lighting overhaul not only cuts energy usage but also enhances the ambiance for guests, seamlessly combining sustainability with luxury.
In April, the hotel’s Earth Month celebrations extend to its employees, with themed Fridays dedicated to greener living. Each week features chef-curated plant-based meals in the employee dining area, encouraging staff to try low-impact, health-forward options—without eliminating animal protein entirely.
On top of that, employees are offered a chance to volunteer with MANNA, a Philadelphia nonprofit that delivers medically tailored meals to those in need. This collaboration reinforces the idea that sustainability isn’t just environmental—it’s social, too.
