Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, has opened the Kimpton BEM Budapest, marking its first venture in Hungary’s capital. The 127-room boutique hotel, transformed from a historic 19th-century mansion, offers guests a prime location on the Buda side of the city, along the banks of the Danube River near the UNESCO World Heritage-designated Castle District.
The Kimpton BEM Budapest boasts proximity to some of Budapest’s most famous attractions, including Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church, and Chain Bridge. The area is also renowned for its therapeutic Turkish baths, adding to the city’s commitment to wellness.

The hotel’s design, spearheaded by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, incorporates elements of Budapest’s rich folklore and vibrant energy. The whimsical and imaginative interiors feature upside-down egg-shaped reception desks, decorative books, and collectibles from around the world. The design also includes enchanting patterns that pay homage to Hungarian mythological creatures and native flora. Key architectural features such as a central glass atrium with a Golden Stag, concaved ceilings, and lush greenery create a fairy-tale-like atmosphere.
Kimpton BEM Budapest offers 127 elegantly appointed guest rooms, including 11 suites. These rooms feature luxurious bedding and walk-in showers, with suites providing free-standing tubs and expansive balconies. For an opulent experience, the Cosmos and Observatory Suites offer 120 square meters of space, including a living room, dining room, and kitchenette, with the Observatory Suite boasting a private rooftop terrace ideal for stargazing and private gatherings.
General Manager Atilla AE Domby expressed excitement about the opening: “Kimpton BEM Budapest blends elegance and urban energy, just steps away from the stunning Danube River and Budapest’s top attractions. With its stylish yet playful vibe, Kimpton BEM Budapest offers a unique glimpse into the cultural crossroads of East and West.”
Dining at Kimpton BEM Budapest includes three distinct venues: AGOS, a chef-driven signature restaurant offering Mediterranean cuisine with Hungarian flair; Fennen, a rooftop bar and garden with Cuban cigars, aged rum, and Japanese whiskey; and Bar Huso, inspired by the legend of the beluga sturgeon, featuring a diverse cocktail menu and live DJ sets on weekends.
The hotel is equipped to host both large and intimate events with venues such as the Turul Chamber, Golden Stag Corner, M.W. Salon, and the grand BEM Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 120 guests. A wellness area with a 24/7 fitness center, hot tub, and steam room is also available.
Kimpton BEM Budapest offers additional amenities such as a hosted evening Kimpton Social hour, complimentary Morning Kickstart, yoga mats, loaner bicycles, and a “Forgot It? We’ve Got It!” program. The hotel is pet-friendly, providing pet-bed loaners, food and water bowls, and a concierge list of pet-friendly destinations.
